Heart of Dixie Akita Rescue, Inc. is a
non-profit (501 c(3) status pending) organization whose mission it is
to rescue and rehome Akitas throughout the southeast, primarily
Georgia, the western parts of North and South Carolina, Middle and East
Tennessee, and southeastern Kentucky. However, we have members in other
areas, such as West Tennessee and southern Mississippi. In addtion, we
network with other rescues throughout the country.
All Heart of Dixie members are volunteers who devote time and money to
the work of the organization. While it is not necessary to own an Akita
to be a member, most people associated with HOD, or any breed-specific
rescue for that matter, generally either own, or have previously owned,
that breed of dog. All that is required is a genuine interest in the
Akita, and the willingness to help further the work of the
organization. Volunteers serve in many ways - evaluating temperaments,
conducting personal interviews with prospective adopters, helping
transport dogs to their new homes, and serving as foster homes.
Heart of Dixie Akita Rescue also serves as an informational resource
for adopters, as well as those interested in adopting an Akita. We
strongly feel that nobody should adopt any breed of dog without first
understanding the nature, temperament and maintenance requirements of
the dog. This is particularly important for large, powerful breeds such
as the Akita. If you are considering adopting an Akita, but have no
direct experience with the breed, we will be happy to try to answer
your questions. Please
email them to us, and we will try to answer as quickly as possible. Also, consult the Resources links for links to site which will give you additional information about the Akita.
Thank you for your interest in Heart of Dixie Akita Rescue.
